Michael Shannon/Nicholas Hoult sci-fi epicset for October release
Screen Media Films has acquired U.S. rights to Jake Paltrow’s “YOUNG ONES”, a dystopian-future epic starring Michael Shannon, Nicholas Hoult, Elle Fanning, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. YOUNG ONES previously made its world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Suzanne Blech, president at Screen Media, plans to distribute the film in October 2014 with a nationwide theatrical release plan.
Set in the future where water has become the most precious resource on the planet, neighboring ranchers Ernest Holm (Michael Shannon) and Flem Lever (Nicholas Hoult) betray each other in a struggle for their family’s survival in a desert wasteland.
“We were blown away by Jake’s vision and execution when we saw his film at Sundance this year,” said Blech. “We’re very excited to work with him to bring this amazing and unique accomplishment to audiences nationwide.”
Paltrow says, “It feels very gratifying to have such a passionate supporter in Screen Media. I am extremely grateful for their belief in our picture and look forward to shaping a creative and unconventional campaign for its release.”

The deal was negotiated by Suzanne Blech, President, and Seth Needle, Director of Acquisitions & Marketing, at Screen Media Films with UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers. The film was co-financed by Subotica, Spier Films, and Saint Shadow, in association with BiFrost Pictures, Quickfire Films, Six Sales, and The Exchange.
